In 1992, just after graduating from high school, Amanda Bossard started her education in marine biology with Alaska Pacific University in Anchorage,AK. Bossard started her commercial fishing career in 1999 when she was hired on board the vessel F/V Sunset. This 65' schooner, which was transformed into an ice-fish tender was owned by Murat Aritan. The fisherman has been in commercial fishing since 1993. Bossard married Aritan in 1999, and the two have joined to fight for their business. They support conservative, profitable management of sustainable seafood resources. In 2007, the mother of two young children Bella age 3 and Andre 1 Bossard before returning to her home in Philadelphia, opened a direct wholesale distribution of seafood called Otolith. She and her husband are separated by 5 months and more for her to be focused on her financial goals and environmental concerns. Since July of 2016, Bossard along with her daughter Isabella aged 12 and son Andre age 10 are back in Southeast Alaska annually each summer as deckhands during the harvest of wild salmon in the summer. They use hooks and line to catch their fish before joining Aritan to sell to local processors for two months. They then continue to increase their direct seafood market via Otolith Sustainable Seafood.
